A customer noted that the best way to demagnetize is to start in the center and pull away, while a pulling sensation can be felt when a ferrous object is passed through the center with the button pushed. The device is not intended for continuous usage and has a duty cycle which requires a 3-minute cool-off time after 5 seconds of usage, or 3 cycles of 5 seconds on and 10 minutes off. It does not come with a red light, but the absence of a red light does not mean it is not working. The oval opening of the device measures 3" x 1 3/4" at the greatest points and can't wipe a computer HDD. It has a thermal protector to prevent overheating.
